Senior struck, killed crossing road

KAMLOOPS – An 86-year-old man was struck and killed by a vehicle while walking along Dallas Drive, just east of Sonora Road late this afternoon.

Police say the man was walking his dog in the 600 block just before 5 p.m. when he was hit by an eastbound truck. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

It's at least the 14th time since April, 2012 a pedestrian has been hit by a vehicle in the city.

Alcohol and drugs are not believed to be a factor in the accident. Staff Sgt. Lane Jumaga says the driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with police.

The investigation continues with the assistance of a traffic analyst, Kamloops City Traffic Unit and the B.C. Coroners Service. Dallas Drive is closed for several hours in both direction at the accident scene.
