‘Bachelor Canada’ bids farewell to nine ladies seeking televised love

TORONTO – Let the heartache begin.

“The Bachelor Canada” sent home its first batch of bachelorettes last night following an emotional premiere marked by tears and bickering.

Former CFL player Brad Smith bid farewell to nine ladies hoping to win his heart in Canada’s latest reality show, based on the popular U.S. series “The Bachelor.”

Nine women were sent home including Amber, a 29-year-old strip club server from Winnipeg; Jessica, a 23-year-old CFL team rep from Vancouver and 27-year-old real estate agent Rebecca — who went by Bubba — from Toronto.

Smith handed out his first roses to 16 women — one more than the show traditionally allows — and gave the “first impression” rose to Whitney, an athletic beauty from Calgary.

Next week, Smith takes eight bachelorettes on the first big group date of the season.
