SNC-Lavalin tabbed to build new rapid transit line in Metro Vancouver

COQUITLAM, B.C. – A group of companies headed SNC-Lavalin (TSX:SNC) has been selected to build the next rapid transit line in Metro Vancouver.

The B.C. government says it will work with the group to sign the final agreement to design, build and finance the Evergreen SkyTrain extension from Burnaby to Coquitlam.

The 11 kilometre line will include elevated and ground level tracks, a two-kilometre tunnel and seven stations and connect to the Millennium Line station at Lougheed Mall.

Construction is estimated to cost $1.4 billion and the line is planned to open in 2016.

The SNC-Lavalin team includes several other companies, such as Graham Building Services, International Bridge Technologies and Jacobs Associates Canada Corp.

SNC-Lavalin also headed up construction of the Canada Line rapid transit system that links downtown Vancouver with Vancouver International Airport in Richmond.
