Spanish court revokes warrant for senior Russian official

MADRID – Spain’s national court has revoked an arrest warrant for a senior Russian official who was sought for questioning in a money-laundering and criminal association investigation.

A three-judge panel ruled Thursday in favour of Vladislav Reznik’s appeal against the warrant. Reznik is a member of parliament’s lower house for the main Kremlin party and deputy chairman of its financial markets committee. He is viewed as an ally of President Vladimir Putin.

The court said Reznik has given evidence via video link and has legal representation in Spain. It added in its ruling that Reznik holds high office in Russia and his whereabouts are known.

Reznik is one of 15 suspects in a yearslong investigation into alleged Russian mafia activities in Spain, according to court documents.
