Salman Rushdie to publish new novel in September
TORONTO – British author Salman Rushdie will publish his first novel in seven years in September.
“Two Years Eight Months and Twenty-Eight Nights” is described as “a wonder tale about the way we live now.”
It blends history, mythology and “a timeless love story” as it highlights “concerns of our present moment.”
Knopf Canada, an imprint of Penguin Random House Canada, says it has acquired the title.
Rushdie has published 11 novels including “Midnight’s Children,” which won the Man Booker Prize in 1981 and the Best of the Booker Prize in 2008.
He went into hiding after his 1988 book, “The Satanic Verses,” drew a death edict from Iran’s religious leaders for its depiction of the Prophet Muhammad.
Rushdie’s last novel was 2008’s “The Enchantress of Florence.”
In 2012, he published his memoir, “Joseph Anton.”
