Upcoming Penticton all candidate forums include one targeting the environment

PENTICTON – Penticton residents will have at least a couple more opportunities to see candidates in their riding with two all-candidates’ forums scheduled prior to the federal election on Oct. 21.

The Penticton & Wine Country Chamber of Commerce hosts an all-candidates forum on Thursday, Oct. 10 at the Penticton Seniors Drop in Centre located at 2965 South Main St., from 6 to 8:30 p.m.

Those attending will have an opportunity to ask candidates question face-to-face in a format where candidates move from table to table.

A moderated panel discussion will follow the public’s candidate access with all five candidates attending.

Questions will be submitted by chamber members with responses time-limited to allow as many questions and answers as possible.

Each candidate will be provided opportunity to answer questions and deliver a statement prior to the end of the forum at 8:30 p.m.

All registered candidates of the South Okanagan-West Kootenay riding have been invited, including Liberal candidate Connie Denesiuk, Conservative candidate Helena Konanz, NDP incumbent Richard Cannings, People’s Party of Canada candidate Sean Taylor and Green Party candidate Tara Howse.

Those attending are asked to pre-register at the Penticton chamber website.

Local climate action group First Things First Okanagan are also hosting an all candidates forum dealing specifically with environmental issues at the Penticton Lakeside Resort on Oct. 15, starting at 7 p.m.

Candidates will discuss questions on climate change, water, biodiversity and toxic pollution.

Doors open at 6 p.m. with round table discussions involving community members from 6:15 to 6:45 p.m. Round table topics will then be put to the candidates.

I have been looking for news in the South Okanagan - SImilkameen for 20 years, having turned a part time lifelong interest into a full time profession. After five years publishing a local newsletter, several years working as a correspondent / stringer for several local newspapers and seven years as editor of a Similkameen weekly newspaper, I joined iNFOnews.ca in 2014. My goal in the news industry has always been to deliver accurate and interesting articles about local people and places. My interest in the profession is life long - from my earliest memories of grade school, I have enjoyed writing.
As an airborne geophysical surveyor I travelled extensively around the globe, conducting helicopter borne mineral surveys.
I also spent several years at an Okanagan Falls based lumber mill, producing glued-wood laminated products.
As a member of the Kaleden community, I have been involved in the Kaleden Volunteer Fire Department for 22 years, and also serve as a trustee on the Kaleden Irrigation District board.
I am currently married to my wife Judy, of 26 years. We are empty-nesters who enjoy living in Kaleden with our Welsh Terrier, Angus, and cat, Tibbs.
Our two daughters, Meagan and Hayley, reside in Richmond and Victoria, respectively.
