‘Corner Gas’ meets ‘Bull Durham:’ Radio sitcom to air during Roughrider games

REGINA – A new radio comedy series is to hit the air waves this summer during Saskatchewan Roughrider games.

Each half-hour episode of “The Riderville Radio Sitcom” will take place during a famous game in the history of the CFL team.

Toronto-based creator Jarrett Rusnak says stories will focus on Rider fans in different CFL cities.

Rusnak says listeners should think of it as “Corner Gas” meets “Bull Durham.”

Almost 60 characters are to be created for 10 episodes, and fans can pay for the privilege of having some of them modelled after themselves.

The first broadcast on Regina radio station CKRM is slated for July.

“Rider fans are known around the CFL for their passion, and that passion makes for great comedy, so basically we’re taking real life and cranking it up a few notches,” Rusnak said in a news release Tuesday.

“The idea of tying actual moments in the Riders’ history to stuff we just fabricate, makes for a special kind of comedy,” added Rusnak, who is originally from Regina.
