Spanish judge: Indicted princess and husband can sell Barcelona mansion, must give court $2.7M

MADRID – Spain’s indicted Princess Cristina and her husband Inaki Urdangarin have been given permission by a judge to sell their luxurious Barcelona mansion.

But they must deposit 2.4 million euros ($2.7 million) of the proceeds with the court to cover possible fines if she is convicted of tax fraud or he is convicted of fraud and money laundering.

Investigative magistrate Jose Castro on Thursday gave the go-ahead for the 7 million-euro-mansion sale by lifting the lien he imposed on the property.

Cristina, 49, was indicted in December as part of a four-year probe into Urdangarin’s business dealings.

She is the first member of the Spanish royal family ordered to stand trial since the monarchy was restored in 1975.

The couple’s trial is expected to take place late this year.
