‘Wealthy Barber’ author David Chilton leaving CBC reality series ‘Dragons’ Den’

TORONTO – Author David Chilton is leaving CBC’s “Dragons’ Den.”

CBC says “The Wealthy Barber” writer is quitting the reality show to “focus on his deals full-time.”

Chilton appeared as a dragon for three seasons, entertaining pitches alongside Jim Treliving, Arlene Dickinson, Michael Wekerle and Vikram Vij.

During that time Chilton closed 22 deals, including ones involving Awake Chocolate, Steeped Tea, Hand and Beak, and Love Child Organics.

CBC says the hunt to replace Chilton will begin soon. Auditions for season 10 launch Saturday in Toronto.

The current season of “Dragons’ Den” airs Wednesdays on CBC-TV.

Chilton says appearing on the show was one of the best experiences of his life.

“I learned an incredible amount from the other dragons and even more from the true stars of the show — the pitchers,” Chilton said Friday in a release.

“I’m thrilled I’ve been able to close so many deals and, though they’ve worked out well financially, the best part has been the new friendships with all my partners. I’ll remain the show’s biggest fan.”
