NBA fines Chris Paul $25,000 for criticizing officiating

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Clippers guard Chris Paul has been fined $25,000 for criticizing an official after Los Angeles lost 105-94 to Cleveland.

The penalty is in line with others the NBA has levied for being critical of officials. Paul was given a technical by Lauren Holtkamp on Thursday night and afterward said the call was “ridiculous” and seemed to imply that one of the NBA’s two female officials may have been in over her head, saying “this might not be for her.”

The call happened when the Clippers were attempting to inbound quickly and Holtkamp stepped in. Paul questioned her and was slapped with the technical.

He later clarified that he was only upset with the call made by Holtkamp, who is in her first full season as an NBA ref.
