‘Morning Phase’ by Beck wins Grammy for album of the year

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The California singer-songwriter Beck has won the Grammy for album of the year for his disc, “Morning Phase.”

The mellow CD won the Grammy for best rock album earlier Sunday. “Morning Phase” has been described as a companion piece to Beck’s 2002 album, “Sea Change,” and received a strong critical response.

Beck had won three Grammy before this year, two for alternative rock performances in the late 1990s, and one for best male rock vocal performance for “Where It’s At” in 1996.

He competed in the category with Beyonce, Ed Sheeran, Sam Smith and Pharrell.
