Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Yehudi Wyner elected president of American arts academy
NEW YORK, N.Y. – Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Yehudi Wyner has been elected president of the American Academy of Art Letters.
The academy announced Wednesday that Wyner will succeed architect Henry S. Cobb and will serve a three-year term. The academy has a core membership of 250 writers, musicians and artists and administers a wide range of prizes. The honour society was founded in 1898.
The 85-year-old Wyner was elected to the academy in 1999. He won the Pulitzer in 2006 for the piano concerto “Chiavi in Mano.”
Academy members include Toni Morrison, Stephen Sondheim and Philip Glass.
