Police: Actor Emile Hirsch put woman in chokehold at Sundance, charged with assault
SALT LAKE CITY – Authorities say actor Emile Hirsch put a woman in a chokehold during an altercation at a Utah nightclub that occurred during the Sundance Film Festival.
He faces a felony charge of aggravated assault.
Charging documents say the altercation happened Jan. 25 at the Tao Nightclub in Park City. Authorities say Hirsch put the woman in a chokehold, she blacked out, and two people had to pull Hirsch off of her.
Hirsch, of Encino, California, told police he didn’t know the woman but was having an argument with her. He acknowledged being intoxicated.
His agent Brian Swardstrom and attorney Robert Offer didn’t immediately return messages seeking comment.
The 29-year-old Hirsch is best known for his starring role in “Into the Wild.” He was at Sundance for the premiere of the drama “Ten Thousand Saints.”
