Canada’s Audrey Lacroix claims gold in women’s 100-metre butterfly

ORLANDO, Fla. – Two-time Olympic team member Audrey Lacroix won the gold medal in the women’s 100-metre butterfly Thursday to highlight a five-medal performance for Canadians at the third stop on the Pro Swim Series circuit.

The Pont-Rouge, Que,. native clocked 59.62 seconds, with Arianna Vanderpool-Wallace of the Bahamas second at 1:00.71 and Lauren Quigley of Britain third at 1:00.89. Emma Ball of Guelph, Ont., was fifth.

Samantha Cheverton of Pointe-Claire, Que., added a silver in the women’s 200-metre freestyle with a time of two minutes 1.16 seconds. American Hannah Miley was first in 2:00.31. Victoria’s Danica Ludlow placed eighth.

Canadians collected three medals in the 4 x 100-metre freestyle relays.

In the women’s race, Pointe-Claire Swim Club and Team Ontario were second and third while Pointe-Claire also added a silver in the men’s race.

In the men’s 400-metre individual medley, Victoria’s Alec Page came within a half-second of the podium— finishing fourth in 4:23.83 while Christian Ng of Markham, Ont., was eighth.

Bronwyn Pasloski of Whitehorse was fifth in the women’s 100-metre breaststroke and Antoine Bujold of Longueuil, Que., finished seventh in the men’s 100-metre breaststroke.
