HALIFAX – A recent drapery donation to a thrift store in Halifax came with a surprise.
Police say several thousand dollars was found tucked inside the bundle of folded drapes by an employee at the store.
The money was sealed in several envelopes.
Police say information inside the envelopes shows the money was withdrawn about nine years ago from a bank in Guysborough County.
Officers contacted the bank, but given how much time has passed, it couldn’t help.
Investigators say it’s believed the drapes were donated last month and they are looking for the public’s help in figuring out who the money belongs to.
On its Twitter account, the department says it believes the money was likely put away by someone for rainy days and forgotten about.
Police say the owner will have to specify the amount of money that was found, what denominations it is in and know the bank or bank account number to claim the cash.
