US stock market edges lower in early trading

NEW YORK, N.Y. – The U.S. stock market is opening with small losses as financial and industrial companies fall the most.

The Standard & Poor’s 500 index is down two points, or 0.1 per cent, to 2,095 in early trading Friday. The Dow Jones industrial average is off 30 points, or 0.2 per cent, to 17,955. The Nasdaq has slipped five points, or 0.1 per cent, to 4,918.

The yield on the 10-year Treasury note has fallen to 2.07 per cent from 2.11 per cent late Thursday. Yields fall as bond prices rise.

Benchmark U.S. crude is down 47 cents to $51.36 a barrel.
