Inaugural European Games in Baku, Azerbaijan, to be shown in US on Universal Sports
BAKU, Azerbaijan – Organizers of the inaugural European Games in Baku have reached an agreement with Universal Sports Network for the event to be broadcast in the United States.
Organizers say Universal Sports will broadcast daily coverage of the June 12-26 multi-sports event on its TV channel and online site. The network also has the rights to distribute the games in Canada.
Terms were not announced.
Simon Clegg, chief operating officer of the Baku organizing committee, says the deal “ensures the games will be shown to one of the largest television audiences in the world.”
Baku has announced broadcast deals covering 50 countries.
More than 6,000 athletes from across Europe will be competing in 20 sports. Some sports will offer qualifying spots for next year’s Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
