‘Orphan Black,’ ‘Mr. D’ among shows up for WGC Screenwriting Awards

TORONTO – “Orphan Black” and “Mr. D” are among the shows that have received nominations for the Writers Guild of Canada’s WGC Screenwriting Awards.

Tony Elliott is nominated for penning the season 2 “Orphan Black” episode “Ipsa Scientia Potestas Est.”

The celebrated sci-fi show is nominated in the TV drama category against episodes of “19-2,” “Lost Girl,” “Saving Hope” and “Strange Empire.”

“Mr. D” received a nod in the TV comedy category alongside episodes of “Sensitive Skin,” “This Hour Has 22 Minutes” and “Trailer Park Boys.”

In the movies and miniseries category, the nominees are “The Best Laid Plans,” “Elephant Song,” and “Sex and Violence.”

And in the children and youth section, two separate episodes of “R.L. Stine’s The Haunting Hour” will compete against instalments of “You & Me,” “Some Assembly Required” and “Annedroids.”

The winners will be announced at the 19th annual WGC Screenwriting Awards gala on April 27 at Toronto’s Koerner Hall.

Ryan Belleville will host the show.
