‘Daily Show’ comics Bee and Jones head to TBS with sitcom based on family life

LOS ANGELES, – “The Daily Show” couple Jason Jones and Samantha Bee are heading to TBS with a comedy series based on their harried family life.

The Canadian husband-and-wife team wrote the pilot and serve as executive producers.

The series is inspired by their own getaways and is billed as “an honest and darkly comedic look at family.”

The channel says it has ordered 10 episodes of the untitled series, which will star Jones as “unfiltered dad Nate.”

Plans call for each season of the show to follow a different family adventure.

Jones announced on Twitter that he’ll be leaving his gig at “The Daily Show” to work on the series.

“For 9 & 1/2 years, I have worked at one of the greatest TV shows of all time. But… It is time for me to go,” he tweeted from the account @jonesinforjason.

“That said, I am ecstatic to announce that I’m about to make another great show over @tbsveryfunny.”

TBS says the cast is rounded out by “Justified” actress Natalie Zea who plays the wife Robin, “Louie” actress Ashley Gerasimovich will appear as rebellious daughter Delilah, and “The Neighbors” actor Liam Carroll plays simpleton son Jared.

“This show delivers on exactly the direction we are taking our TBS comedies – honest, smart and provocative,” Brett Weitz, executive vice president of original programming for TBS, said in a release.

“We couldn’t be happier to be in business with Sam and Jason on what we hope will be the first of many more projects together.”

Production is slated to begin this summer, with an air date set for later this year.

The show is the second TBS pickup from a “Daily Show” couple. The channel also greenlit a series from former correspondents Steve Carell and Nancy Carell. “Angie Tribeca” stars Rashida Jones.
