U.S. ambassador says Canada, U.S. must work together to battle climate change

OTTAWA – The U.S. ambassador to Canada says the relationship between the two countries is strong, despite President Barack Obama’s veto this week of the Keystone XL pipeline.

But Bruce Heyman also has a gentle reminder for the Ottawa Chamber of Commerce about the dangers of fossil fuels.

He says climate change is real, and carbon has no borders.

Heyman says the U.S. and Canada will have to fight climate change together by setting targets for greenhouse gas emissions that will benefit the planet and future generations.

He also says irritants are to be expected in the Canada-U.S. relationship, but notes that the U.S. remains Canada’s biggest energy customer.

Heyman got into the Canadian spirit by cracking wise about how cold the city has been during his first winter on the job, but also praised Ottawa’s citizens for their warmth.
