Allman movie assistant director gets separate trial from others in fatal Georgia train crash

JESUP, Ga. – An assistant director on an ill-fated Gregg Allman biographical movie will stand trial separately from three of her bosses charged in a deadly train crash in southeast Georgia.

Prosecutors told a Superior Court judge Thursday they have agreed to a separate trial for Hillary Schwartz, an assistant director on the “Midnight Rider” movie. The film’s director, Randall Miller, and two others are scheduled to stand trial March 9.

All four were charged with involuntary manslaughter and trespassing after a freight train plowed into the film’s crew Feb. 20, 2014, on a railroad bridge. Camera assistant Sarah Jones died and six others were injured.

District Attorney Jackie Johnson said Schwartz may be called to testify against her co-defendants. No date was set for Schwartz’s trial.
