What’s new on Netflix Canada, Shomi, CraveTV in March?
A monthly look at what’s scheduled to be added to the catalogues of streaming services Netflix Canada, Shomi and CraveTV:
TOP PICKS
— After NBC decided it wouldn’t fit into its prime-time lineup, Netflix snagged the rights to stream the debut season of “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt,” a comedy helmed by Tina Fey and fellow “30 Rock” creator Robert Carlock. It stars Ellie Kemper (who played perky receptionist Erin on “The Office”) as a woman looking for a fresh start in New York after spending fifteen years in a cult. For action movie fans, Netflix will also be streaming last year’s “X-Men: Days Of Future Past” and “Transformers: Age Of Extinction.” And Oscar-nominated “How To Train Your Dragon 2” — which was helmed by Canadian director Dean DeBlois — is available to stream soon.
— If you missed the teary end of “Parenthood” earlier this month, Shomi will start streaming the family drama’s final sixth season near the end of March. The Rogers/Shaw streaming service is also offering up “Betas,” an Amazon show about a group of computer programmers looking to cash in on their big app idea.
— Bell Media’s CraveTV will soon be streaming the HBO series “Enlightened,” which picked up a best TV comedy Golden Globe nomination and earned star Laura Dern a Golden Globe for best TV comedy actress. Benedict Cumberbatch fans may also want to try the BBC/HBO mini-series “Parade’s End.” The U.K. ratings winner was dubbed a “higher-brow ‘Downton Abbey’” by the Hollywood Reporter.
