Lost hunter located northwest of Summerland

Penticton Search and Rescue volunteers came to the aid of a lost hunter northwest of Summerland yesterday.

Search and rescue spokesperson Randy Brown said in a press release the search and rescue team were summoned by Summerland RCMP to aid in the search for a hunter who reported he was lost in the area of Darke Lake Provincial Park around 4 p.m. yesterday, Oct. 22.

A ground team consisting of seven personnel and a helicopter were dispatched to the area and shortly before nightfall the hunter was located at the top of a hill northeast of Darke Lake.

Search and rescue manager Kelvin Hall said the hunter was well prepared and had placed himself in a clear, elevated area where he could be seen, in addition to staying in one place.

When the hunter reported himself lost to his family and friends, he also gave a detailed description of his surroundings, which helped the rescue team locate him.
