Israeli leader Netanyahu thanks US, Obama for assistance, warns of threat from Iran
WASHINGTON – Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is thanking the United States and President Barack Obama for aiding Israel, and warning of the threat that Iran poses to Israel’s survival.
Netanyahu on Tuesday defended his controversial speech to Congress. He said he regretted that it was being perceived as political.
Netanyahu, who received a warm welcome upon his arrival in the U.S. House, said he appreciated the American aid, including military assistance to build the Iron Dome missile defence system.
He said he had a profound obligation to speak about the danger from Iran and said all efforts must be made to stop it from developing a nuclear weapon.
Netanyahu spoke as the United States and other Western nations engaged in negotiations with Iran to curb its nuclear program.
