Entertainment exec David Geffen donates $100 million to New York’s Lincoln Center

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Entertainment industry executive David Geffen has donated $100 million to New York’s Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts.

The performing arts building — long known as Avery Fisher Hall — will be renamed David Geffen Hall in September.

The music and movie mogul is a native New Yorker and a longtime philanthropist.

Geffen said in a statement Wednesday that Lincoln Center is a “beacon to artists and musicians around the world.”

Lincoln Center Chair Katherine Farley announced the gift.

Last November the children of Avery Fisher entered into an agreement with Lincoln Center to enable the renaming of the hall.
