Controversial documentary about Indian gang rape to air on CBC News Network

TORONTO – A documentary that the Indian government tried to ban from broadcast is getting airtime in Canada on Sunday.

“India’s Daughter” examines the brutal gang rape and murder of a 23-year-old woman on a bus in Delhi. It’s slated to air on CBC News Network.

The 2012 attack made headlines globally and sparked demonstrations in the streets of India calling for gender equality.

The doc by British filmmaker Leslee Udwin delves into the case and includes a frank interview with one of the convicted rapists on death row, who states “a girl is far more responsible for a rape than a boy.”

The Indian government obtained a court order banning the film from screening in India and wrote the BBC demanding it not be broadcast or posted online anywhere in the world.

The BBC aired it Wednesday and CBC News Network says it’s scheduled to air Sunday in Canada.
