Culinary experts lead discussions at TIFF’s ‘Food on Film’ series

TORONTO – The worlds of film and food will collide in a Toronto film series devoted to both passions.

TIFF’s six-part subscription series “Food on Film” draws on guests from the culinary world to discuss the intersections of cinema, culture and gastronomy.

The series kicks off March 11 with Indian-born chefs, cookbook authors and Vancouver restaurateurs Vikram Vij and Meeru Dhalwala presenting “The Lunchbox,” which explores the art behind crafting Indian dishes.

On April 1, James Beard Award-winning travel writer Naomi Duguid discusses the documentary “The Gleaners & I,” and Jordan Salcito, beverage director at restaurant Momofuku, presents the documentary “Somm” on April 22.

Chef Wylie Dufresne, a proponent of American molecular gastronomy, discusses his approach to cooking after a viewing of the comedy “Delicatessen” on May 13.

A debate on gluten and grain consumption will be led by San Fransisco baker Chad Robertson after a screening of “The Grain Divide” on June 3.

Wrapping up on June 24 is chef Jonathan Waxman’s tribute to Ivan Reitman with a screening of the comedy kingpin’s film “Meatballs.” The two are partners in the Toronto restaurant Montecito.

Matt Galloway of CBC Radio’s “Metro Morning” in Toronto hosts the fourth season of the series.
