Wind causes power outages across North Okanagan and beyond

Strong winds that ripped through Vernon and the North Okanagan have caused power outages and impacted some traffic lights in the area.

The City of Vernon is working on traffic lights around the city and B.C Hydro is reporting several power outages across the North Okanagan and Shuswap.

The windstorm blew through the North Okanagan at around noon today, Oct 25.

B.C. Hydro is currently reporting outages in Vernon, Armstrong, Lavington, Enderby and Salmon Arm, as well as other pockets across the region. Currently, almost 12,000 homes are without power across the Okanagan. 

B.C. Hydro is reminding people that if they see a fallen power line to stay back at least 10 metres and call 911 to report.

The City of Vernon is reminding people if a flashing traffic light is flashing or off, it must be treated as a four-way stop.

More than 32,000 customers are without power across the Thompson and Shuswap region after the storm blew through earlier today.
