CONTAINMENT AND CLEANUP CONTINUES AT A NORTHERN ONTARIO TRAIN DERAILMENT

CN Rail crews worked all weekend to deal with a derailment of one of its trains on Saturday. A number of tanker cars laden with oil caught fire and spilled into the local waterway near the community of Gogama. Crews were continuing the cleanup efforts on Monday.

PREMIER GREG SELINGER LOOKS AHEAD AFTER LEADERSHIP VICTORY

Manitoba Premier Greg Selinger survived a challenge to his leadership of the province’ New Democratic Party — but only by the narrowest of margins. Now he faces the daunting tasks of healing a party divided against itself, and winning back the support of Manitobans before the next provincial election in just over a year from now. A tall order, perhaps, but Selinger insists he can deliver.

VANCOUVER TRANSIT COPS UNDER FIRE OVER SEX ASSAULT INVESTIGATION

Some women’s advocates are criticizing a decision by Metro Vancouver Transit Police to release a detailed description of an alleged sex assault victim. They say police should never have issued a news release that included identifying details of the young woman. Transit Police went public last week, asking the young woman to come forward, after a witness reported seeing a man grope her on the city’s SkyTrain.
