VEYSONNAZ, Switzerland – Canada’s Kevin Hill opened the snowboardcross World Cup season with a bronze medal Saturday.
The world championship silver medallist from Vernon, B.C., finished third behind Lucas Eguibar of Spain and Nikolay Olyunin of Russia.
Michela Moioli won gold in the women’s competition as she continued her comeback from a serious knee injury sustained in the Olympic final 13 months ago. The 19-year-old Italian also took bronze at the worlds in January at Kreischberg, Austria.
Moioli led the final throughout and finished ahead of two French racers, Nelly Moenne Loccoz and Chloe Trespeuch. Two-time Olympic medallist Dominique Maltais of Petite-Riviere-St-Francois, Que., was fourth.
World champion Lindsey Jacobellis of the United States placed 11th after crashing in the semifinals.
Veysonnaz hosts another World Cup event Sunday and the season concludes next weekend at La Molina, Spain.
