KELOWNA — Students are staying home for one more day as the Central Okanagan School District lets city road crews catch up on snow clearing.
Weather conditions have improved and a snowfall warning from Environment Canada ended at 4 a.m. today, Jan. 6, school officials said in a statement on district website it is "still unsafe to open our schools today."
"Maintenance crews and contractors providing snow removal services have informed us that most side streets and sidewalks have not been plowed and many remain unsafe for either vehicular or pedestrian traffic," says the unattributed to statement. "Our hope is that with more favorable weather forecasted for today, crews will be able to catch up with the large amount of snow removal that has to happen so that students can walk safely to school and most buses will be able to operate."
That's also a pretty good indication of what travel will be like on city roads again today.
