Fresh coat of snow for area highways

THOMPSON-OKANAGAN – We got a brief reprieve from the cold this past week with above normal temperatures but overnight winter decided to come knocking at the door again and along with the snow we can expect to see temperatures fall today.

Last night some highway passes received snow, as much as 16 centimetres at the Walloper weather station on the Coquihalla Highway, and today more snow is expected on the Coquihalla Highway from Merritt to Hope, the Okanagan Connector, Highway 3 and the TransCanada Highway from Eagle Pass to Roger Pass.

Environment Canada issued a special weather statement on the heels of the cold front that moved across the Southern Interior last night warning unsettled conditions could dump additional snow amounts of up to 10 cm on highway passes. It's expected to taper off late in the afternoon as a ridge of high pressure over Northern B.C. builds southward.

Temperatures will hold steady around 1-2 Celsius with a chance of flurries or rain across the region. In Kamloops and Vernon snow is expected to stop this morning while Kelowna and Penticton can expect snow beginning later this morning.

Tomorrow below normal temperatures of -2 C to -5 C will be seen across the region though temperatures will get back up to around normals of 0 C for the weekend.
