VERNON – Staff at the Vernon SPCA are hurt and puzzled as to why someone broke into the building, but took nothing.

Branch manager Corinne Ross said in a news release the culprit made a hole in the building and got into a small supply room where vaccines and antibiotics are stored. A mess was left behind, but nothing was taken.

“We don’t know why someone would break in,” Ross said. “Nothing seems to be missing. Any motive is a real mystery.”

It appears the suspect, or suspects, didn’t enter any other room. Repairing the damage will take scarce money away from caring for the animals, Ross said.

“It’s mystifying,” Ross says. “They could have fallen into a dog kennel and been bitten, or injured one of the many felines in the cat rooms. It certainly wasn’t Santa trying to come down the chimney. There were no gifts for our animals.”

The RCMP are investigating and anyone with information is asked to contact them anonymously at Crime Stoppers: 1-800-222-8477.
