Penticton council asked to approve free Christmas parking
Penticton City Council will be asked to get into the spirit of Christmas at tomorrow’s council meeting.
Staff are recommending councillors approve free on-street parking in the downtown area for four Saturdays in December.
The four Saturdays would include Dec. 7, 14, 21 and 28, 2019.
A staff report notes the city has approved similar no-charge Saturday parking during the month of December for the past several years.
The free parking is done as a Christmas promotion at the request of the Downtown Penticton Association and only applies to on-street metered parking. City parking lots and private parking lot rules would remain in effect.
Free parking is typically supported each year by councils in Kelowna and Vernon as well.
Bylaw services supervisor Tina Siebert says the impact on city revenues should be approximately $5,000.
