UPDATE: Some residents awakened by shallow quake south of Penticton
Some South Okanagan residents were jolted from their sleep, possibly by a small earthquake south of the border, early this morning.
Natural Resources Canada confirmed a 2.2 magnitude earthquake struck the Okanagan valley just south of Penticton at 1:36 a.m. today, Nov. 28.
Earthquake seismologist Alison Bird says the quake was shallow and easily felt by those close by.

There are no reports of damage, and Earthquakes Canada said none would be expected.
Several social media comments describe hearing a loud noise and shaking at about the same time today. Reports of the shaking came from Kaleden, Penticton and the Penticton Indian Band.
One resident said “it freaked me out” while another described that it sounded like a giant beach ball bounced off the roof of the house.
