Armed drug dealer busted in Vernon

Police have a suspect in custody after a “high-risk takedown” of an armed man in Vernon yesterday.

RCMP got a call from a person who said a man had yelled at him and showed him a handgun as he walked by in the area of 31 Street and 47 Avenue in Vernon at around 10:35 a.m. yesterday, Dec. 4.

Vernon RCMP media relations officer Const. Jocelyn Noseworthy says in a news release officers flooded the area.

"The male attempted to flee on foot, but RCMP officers performed a high-risk takedown, which resulted in him being taken into police custody without further incident,” Noseworthy says in the release.

Officers seized a loaded handgun and a variety of drugs including suspected fentanyl, cocaine and methamphetamines in various quantities.

A 26-year-old Kelowna man remains in custody and is expected to appear in Vernon court tomorrow on a number of charges.
