Snow on the way for Okanagan and Kamloops: Environment Canada

Snow in the forecast this week in the Okanagan and Kamloops is expected to accompany temperatures hovering around the freezing mark and that could be a recipe for some poor driving conditions.

Environment Canada meteorologist Doug Lundquist says he isn’t expecting a “big dump” of snow but between two to five centimetres is expected to fall in the Kamloops and Okanagan regions, starting tomorrow night, Dec. 11.

Light snow is expected to begin in Kamloops tomorrow and continue overnight before becoming a 60 per cent chance of flurries through Thursday.

The Okanagan has a 40 to 60 per cent chance of flurries tomorrow with periods of snow overnight. The snow is expected to continue through the day Thursday and into that night.

Lundquist says snowfall amounts are expected to be highest in Kelowna and the Shuswap where between five and 10 cm could fall. Lesser amounts are expected in Kamloops and the South Okanagan.

He warns commuters to be aware of driving conditions as the combination of snow and temperatures around the freezing mark can make for "pretty slick conditions very quickly.”

Higher elevation highways and routes on mountain passes could see as much as 10 cm of snow over the same period, Lundquist says.

I have been looking for news in the South Okanagan - SImilkameen for 20 years, having turned a part time lifelong interest into a full time profession. After five years publishing a local newsletter, several years working as a correspondent / stringer for several local newspapers and seven years as editor of a Similkameen weekly newspaper, I joined iNFOnews.ca in 2014. My goal in the news industry has always been to deliver accurate and interesting articles about local people and places. My interest in the profession is life long - from my earliest memories of grade school, I have enjoyed writing.
As an airborne geophysical surveyor I travelled extensively around the globe, conducting helicopter borne mineral surveys.
I also spent several years at an Okanagan Falls based lumber mill, producing glued-wood laminated products.
As a member of the Kaleden community, I have been involved in the Kaleden Volunteer Fire Department for 22 years, and also serve as a trustee on the Kaleden Irrigation District board.
I am currently married to my wife Judy, of 26 years. We are empty-nesters who enjoy living in Kaleden with our Welsh Terrier, Angus, and cat, Tibbs.
Our two daughters, Meagan and Hayley, reside in Richmond and Victoria, respectively.
