No more free rides for Summerland

SUMMERLAND – Better bring money as well as cloth grocery bags before heading to Penticton to shop as Summlerland Transit fares kick in on New Year's Day.

The route between Summerland and Penticton was free since it started on Oct. 28. The free ride was to entice riders to stick with the transit service when it went from zero dollars to $2 for one-way and $4 for two-way trips.

The transit operates four times a day and stops at the Summerland – Okanagan Regional Library, the Summerland Health Centre, Penticton Regional Hospital and other key locations.

Tickets are being sold in 10 packs and will be available at a discount. A sheet of 10 for trips within Summerland are $18 and ticket sheets for getting to Penticton are $36. Monthly passes are $50 and are good for travel on routes both within Summerland and to Penticton. Tickets and passes are available at Summerland Municipal Hall and the Summerland Aquatic Centre.
