Kelowna RCMP looking to return historic documents to living relatives

Police are searching for living relatives of a couple who lived in Kelowna in the 1940s, so officers can return personal documents.

Officers found the “precious documents” belonging to the late Alexander Chisholm Monro and his wife the late Violet May Monro, according to a Kelowna RCMP media release issued Friday, Jan. 17.

“The documents were located in Kelowna by police during a search in an unrelated file,” RCMP communications advisor Ryan Watters told iNFOnews.ca. Police did not say where or when the documents were found.

Alexander served in the Canadian military and started his service in Edmonton in 1940. He served in Canada, the United Kingdom and the Central Mediterranean until his discharge in 1945 due to an injury.

Police have tried and failed to find living relatives, and are now asking for the public’s help. Investigators have released a photo of Violet found with the documents.

Among the documents police are trying to return are Violet’s identification documents and Alexander’s Canadian Army Discharge Certificate.
