HERE IT COMES: Incoming storm threatening to drop a lot of snow on B.C. interior

A weather system moving through the B.C. Interior today is expected to drop a lot of snow on valley bottoms and even more snow on mountain passes as it moves inland tonight, Environment Canada says. 

A special weather statement yesterday has been upgraded to a Snowfall Warning for the Central Okanagan including Kelowna, Shuswap and Boundary areas that could get up to 10 cm of snow before Friday and up to 15 cm in the Similkameen area. Areas not covered by the Snowfall Warning should get at least 5 cm.

But much of that snow in the valleys could quickly turn to showers by Friday morning.

You also might want to adjust travel plans because the weather office has also issued a Winter Storm Warning for the Coquihalla Highway from Hope to Merritt and the Trans-Canada Highway from Eagle Pass to Rogers Pass where 30 to 60 cm of snow is expected through Friday under low visibility. The Okanagan connector from Merritt to Kelowna is also under a Snowfall Warning and could get 15 to 25 cm of snow under the same conditions. While the storm is over the coast, it could drop up to 50 to 70 mm of rain for the Fraser Valley east of Hope under a Rainfall Warning.

Motorists are advised to check road conditions at DriveBC before, and while travelling.
