Little chance of further snow before Christmas in the Okanagan

There’s not much chance of more snow falling in the Okanagan between now and Christmas, as the forecast for the next several days calls for a mix of sun and cloud with temperatures around the freezing mark.

Some parts of the valley may also experience melting conditions today, Dec. 23, and tomorrow as well, as the daytime highs nudge above 0 Celsius in all three cities today.

Today in the Okanagan, Environment Canada says this morning’s rain and snow mix should give way to cloudy skies and a 40 per cent chance of rain or snow in Kelowna, later becoming a mix of sun and cloud.

Today’s high should reach 2 Celsius in Vernon and Kelowna, and 3 C in Penticton, with a low down to -4 C tonight in Vernon and Kelowna, and -1 C in Penticton. Winds tonight are expected to be 15 km/h with a windchill of -4 C.

The forecast calls for a mix of sun and cloud tomorrow, Christmas Eve, with a high of -1 C in Vernon and Kelowna, and a high of 2 C in Penticton. Overnight the mercury is expected to drop to -4 C in all three cities under cloudy skies.

Wednesday’s Christmas Day forecast calls for cloudy skies and a high of 1 C in the Okanagan with more clouds and low of -4 C overnight.

Thursday should see the sun return with a high of -1 C and an overnight low of -4 C under clear skies.

More sun is forecast for Friday with a high of -2 C and a low of -3 C under cloudy overnight skies.

The weekend looks like it will be cloudy and damp, with a 30 per cent chance of flurries both Saturday and Sunday. Highs are expected to reach 1 C Saturday and 2 C on Sunday.

Normal temperatures for this time of year in the Okanagan are highs of -2 C and lows of -8 C.

I have been looking for news in the South Okanagan - SImilkameen for 20 years, having turned a part time lifelong interest into a full time profession. After five years publishing a local newsletter, several years working as a correspondent / stringer for several local newspapers and seven years as editor of a Similkameen weekly newspaper, I joined iNFOnews.ca in 2014. My goal in the news industry has always been to deliver accurate and interesting articles about local people and places. My interest in the profession is life long - from my earliest memories of grade school, I have enjoyed writing.
As an airborne geophysical surveyor I travelled extensively around the globe, conducting helicopter borne mineral surveys.
I also spent several years at an Okanagan Falls based lumber mill, producing glued-wood laminated products.
As a member of the Kaleden community, I have been involved in the Kaleden Volunteer Fire Department for 22 years, and also serve as a trustee on the Kaleden Irrigation District board.
I am currently married to my wife Judy, of 26 years. We are empty-nesters who enjoy living in Kaleden with our Welsh Terrier, Angus, and cat, Tibbs.
Our two daughters, Meagan and Hayley, reside in Richmond and Victoria, respectively.
