Okanagan and Similkameen residents should brace for heavy snowfall

Much of the Okanagan and the Similkameen are being told to get ready for a heavy snowfall Monday, as an approaching Pacific warm front gives way to heavy snowfall.

"Heavy snow will prevail over the Similkameen beginning Monday morning then spread further north into the Central and North Okanagan regions during the day," Environment Canada reported in a snowfall warning issued Sunday, Jan. 4.

Accumulations of 10 cm are expected for the Similkameen during the day Monday followed by an additional five to 10 cm Monday night.

The Okanagan regions should receive two to four cm Monday then another 10 cm Monday night after the snow intensifies.

Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow.

Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions. They advise taking frequent breaks and avoid strain when clearing snow.
