Village residents happy to see Mount Baldy reopening

PENTICTON – Skiers in the South Okanagan had two reasons to feel good about their sport last week.

After the region received a huge dump of snow last weekend, new operators at Mount Baldy announced Friday,  Jan. 9 they would soon be open again to the general public.

Mount Baldy’s new operator took control on December 19, 2014.

The resort actually began operations Sunday, but only for village residents. On Friday, Jan. 16, operations begin for the general public.

Mount Baldy village residents Mike and Jane Bland headed to the hill Sunday to begin their ski season at Baldy.

“The conditions were fine, some runs well groomed, others still powder. It was a nice, sunny day at the hill,” said Mike Bland, adding cabin owners on the hill are optimistic about plans for the ski hill now that it has reopened.

“Quite a few of the cabin owners were up on Sunday. Everyone I spoke to had a positive attitude about what is going to happen to the hill,” he said.

Bland guessed there are 80 or more residences in the village.

The Sugarlump quad chair and Magic Carpet beginners lift will be in operation Friday through Sunday until the end of the season.
