Seven people handed fines in conjunction with 2012 Noble Lake fire

Eight months after a forest fire started on a forestry road in Kamloops, the police and fire department discovered who dumped the refuse that caught fire.

Using social media, Kamloops Fire and Rescue, RCMP and Bylaw Services handed out seven bylaw violation notices under Parks Bylaw 25-66 Section 6(b) for dumping refuse in a park or public area.

While they were not able to identify the individuals responsible for starting the fire at 1.7 km on the Noble Lake Forest Service Road on May 30, 2012, four of the seven individuals plead guilty and were ordered to pay $500 each for the violations.

Due to the costs involved – $67,000 to extinguish the preventable fire – the City wants to remind citizens of the extreme nature to this case and that they will continue the investigation until those responsible are apprehended.

Municipal fines can reach up to $2,000. Criminal charges and civil litigation are also potential consequences.
