KAMLOOPS – Christmas week is usually all about family, friends and food but Mother Nature decided to make it about her this year.

Starting with heavy fog in the valley early in the week much of Kamloops was kept under wraps while upper elevations basked in sunshine. The fog was especially thick on Christmas Eve and again on Boxing Day. Boxing Day also brought freezing rain which left roads and parking lots coated in ice for the shopping crowds that usually venture out looking for great deals the day after Christmas.

Boxing Day saw smaller crowds than usual in the morning, many retail parking lots were at least half empty and there was room to move and breathe in stores. By mid-afternoon the crowds picked up, but ice, accidents and an eight-hour power outage in Pineview, Dufferin and lower Aberdeen likely deterred some shoppers.
