More snow on the way for Kamloops

The second weather system in a week to pass over Kamloops is expected to deliver a fresh round of snow to the city.

Environment Canada meteorologist Doug Lundquist says the next storm to hit Kamloops will be spread out over a few days.

“Snow is expected over a long period. It won’t be really heavy over any one time, but there could be some decent accumulations in places,” he says.

Lundquist says five to 10 cm could fall with 15 cm at higher elevations over a two and a half day period, beginning tomorrow night, Jan. 9.

“Once this last system goes by, there’s nothing to hold back the arctic air. We’ll see temperatures drop to minus double digits for overnight lows and only recovering to the -10 C range,” he says.

For Kamloops today, Jan. 8, there is a 40 per cent chance of flurries. East winds are expected at 20 km/h. The temperature is expected to remain steady around 0 C. There is a 40 per cent chance of flurries overnight under mostly cloudy skies and a low of -6 C.

Thursday should be cloudy with a 40 per cent chance of flurries in the morning before becoming a mix of sun and cloud in the afternoon. Thursday’s high is expected to reach -3 C.

Periods of snow are expected to begin Thursday night with a low of -6.

The snow is expected to continue through Friday and into Friday night along with a high of -2 C and  low of -5 C.

Snow on Saturday is expected to reduce to flurries Saturday night with a high of -2 C and low of -7 C.

Periods of snow are forecast for Sunday with a high of -1, followed by cloudy periods and a 30 per cent chance of flurries with a low to -16 C.

The snow is expected to end Monday with a mix of sun and cloud and  a high reaching only -13 C . Monday’s low could dip to -18 C.

Tuesday, expect to see a mix of sun and cloud with a high of -13 C.
