KELOWNA – Crews arriving at the scene of a residential garage fire were greeted by heavy black smoke early Monday evening.
The Kelowna Fire Department was called to Carruthers Street around 6:15 p.m., Jan. 12, and while they were able to quickly extinguish the fire the interior of the garage was already destroyed.
In total 17 fire personnel were on scene along with three engines, a rescue truck and a command vehicle. Fortis, B.C. Ambulance and RCMP were also on scene.
While the cause is currently unknown the fire department is reminding people to properly use space heaters and extension cords, which can lead to fires. The B.C. Safety Authority and local fire investigators will be on scene in the morning to determine a cause.
