UPDATE: Southern Interior settles into deep freeze

Temperatures across the Southern Interior were an average of -18 C this morning, making roads slick.

While extreme weather will be the norm for the next few days, there's some good news. The blowing snow warnings that blanketed the valley have been rescinded although some snow should persist.

"A low pressure system over southern BC will continue to spread snow over the region this morning," read an alert from the national weather agency.

"As well, an arctic front has arrived with strong gusty winds resulting in dropping temperatures. The combination of falling snow with very strong winds will result in blowing snow and poor visibility."

Visibility will improve through the morning as snow tapers off and winds ease.

"Travel is expected to be hazardous due to reduced visibility in some locations. Visibility may be significantly and suddenly reduced to near zero," reads the alert.
