Love planet Venus reaches annual peak brightness on Valentines Day tonight
Known as the love planet, Venus is reaching its peak brightness for the year coincidentally on Valentines Day, and the overnight sky forecast for Kamloops and the Okanagan is cooperating for optimal viewing opportunities.
Named for the Roman goddess of love, Venus is the brightest planet seen from Earth and is so bright, it can often be seen at twilight.
Every once in a while the planet reaches maximum brilliancy which is set to happen tonight, Feb. 14, and won’t happen again until September, 2026, according to EarthSky.com.
Overnight skies tonight are forecast to be clear in Kamloops, and clear with a few clouds in the Okanagan.
Viewers can find Venus blazing low in the west after sunset, with the dimmer planet Saturn below it.
