Kamloops should be out of the deep freeze this weekend

Kamloops residents can expect a couple more nights of double digit lows before the mercury begins climbing on Saturday.

"It's going to warm up, but not before another period of snow on Friday evening and Saturday, when two to five cm could fall," Environment Canada meteorologist Doug Lundquist says.

Lundquist says the "big push" towards warming will begin on Sunday with temperatures in the 0 Celsius range expected into next week.

Mainly cloudy conditions are expected today, with winds east at 20 km/h and a high of -11 Celsius.

Wind chills can be expected in the -19 C to -28 C range, with the potential for risk of frostbite.

Partly cloudy skies and a low of -15 C is expected tonight.

Friday should begin with a mix of sun and cloud with 15 km/h winds and a high of -11 C.

Windchills Friday are expected in the -18 C to -23 C range.

There is a 60 per cent chance of flurries Friday night under cloudy skies, along with a low of -13 C.

Saturday should see a 60 per cent chance of flurries continuing with a high creeping up to -4 C.

Saturday’s overnight low is expected to dip to -6 C.

The mercury should rise above freezing on Sunday, with a high of 3 C expected under cloudy skies, and an overnight low at -2 C.

More clouds are in store Monday, with a high to 3 C and a low of -1 C.

Tuesday the clouds are expected to continue, along with a high above freezing, at 2 C, and an overnight low of -2 C.

More clouds are in store Wednesday, with a high to 2 C.

Normal temperatures at this time of year in Kamloops are highs of -1 C and lows of -8 C.
